If you want a braindead almost-action flick, then fine, go nuts.
The graphics are amazing, the scenery somewhat exciting, the architecture a little confusing, but still OK.
If however you were looking for even a decent reboot of the Alien franchise, you’re in for a massive disappointment. This story is awful from start to finish.
Before I continue, I rate the movie 6 of 10 for graphics.
I rate the story a negative one of ten for being so fucking stupid.
In short, no thinking was involved in the creation of this trash.
Vastly better stories have been formed in the fan community, by far most of which does not involve humans on every level of creation.
Once again we have a story about humans who fuck around with other humans, on so many levels, with a little sprinkling of body horror because that is the thing that happens in this universe. Released to a gaping mass of stupid that is moviegoers. Leaving those with a brain somewhat unsatisfied and maybe even displeased that the universe has settled into one that is just shared by another flavor of humans. Discarding all possibilities of ancient civilizations and other races in the great cosmos.
So yea, Xenomorphs were born from humans, through a bioweapon created by humans. Fuck humans.
-Spoilers follow-
Cave paintings found on Earth suggests that humans were created by another race. This prompts an old man to spend his fortune to organize a trip to a distant world based on the “map” left by the cave paintings.
Upon arrival the crew finds an abandoned terraforming effort by an ancient species. It later turns out however that this is a military installation and development location for a terrifying mutagen; a weapon of mass destruction.
An android with a desire to push anything and everything on the urging of the old man infects a crew member with the mutagen. This crew member then knocks up his wife the same evening with some terrible spawn.
A couple of people get horribly brutalized by mutated earthworms.
The android finds a living member of the species they originally set out to find in stasis within a spaceship that was supposed to head for earth.
The woman loses her husband to the mutagen, then before she can grieve the android confides in her what he had done, and that she is now pregnant with something not entirely human and tries to confine her to stasis for the trip home. The woman breaks free and runs to an automatic surgery machine instructing it to cut the thing out of her. The machine dutifully performs the instruction and staples her belly right back up after extracting the squidbeast from her belly.
The old man confronts the older race of “Engineers” (they are actually human) wanting his immortality, because aliens.
The white human (The Engineer) brutalizes the android and the old man. Then immediately begins powering up his ship to head toward earth to destroy it.
The woman, having escaped, talks to the black man who is the pilot of the ship they arrived upon, they must stop the alien ship otherwise earth will be dead by the time they get home.
The black man sacrifices himself and the ship, but not before releasing an escape pod with the surgery machine and the modern benefits of life to the one living in it.
There’s a sequence with a giant rolling wheel thingie that crushes a mean woman who is the daughter of the old man.
The white human has survived the crash of his wheel shaped spaceship and makes his way to the escape pod to kill the woman who has found her way there. She unleashes the now giant squid thing that she had cut out of her earlier. The squid thing kisses the white human and dies.
The android’s head, which has survived advises the woman of the many other ships of death on this planet and they both head out for new adventures.
Meanwhile a new creature tears itself from the dead white human, hissing in a menacing fashion.
And that is it.
