Breezy

The server, Breezy, has been added to the IRC network, and will also take over a few of Stormweyr’s roles in the comming time, particularly as a backup when Tempestas is to be moved some times in the near future.

Captcha

As you can see below, every post has a comment line and a field for a name to the left of it, there is no complicated image to solve, and no stupid intermediate step.

Yet, for a long while, no bots have managed to crack my captcha, possibly because mine is the only website to use this particular version of it.

Sure, a human can type in any old crap, but at least that is easier to cope with than a bot spamming hundreds of lines.

Unique captchas, different captchas, and using form IDs that that is either random or not conforming to the usual naming conventions will throw bots off as well, like naming your username "captcha" and your password "failure" no user should care, since they don’t bother reading the code anyway, web browsers may not store these either, since you’ve broken an age old trend.

Doing the same thing that everyone else does is the root cause of others taking advantage of your conformity, we already do it enough in making sure to implement protocols to specification, and even getting that wrong too, leaving gaps for exploits.

Add a little chaos, be the snowflake, be unique, be different.

(Maybe a little too much random.)

The Pirate Bay

Thanks guys, it has been a pleasure watching your efforts, and you made a pile of cash too, how awesome is that?

The backlash is merely from confused souls who feel that the name was important in the first place, no better than the oppressive media to be honest.

Others shall rise to take the top spot for a time, and in time they too will fall, the pirates shall prevail as long as product is being sold for unreasonable prices.

Streisand Effect

There’s a lot of these going around the net these years, google street view, idiots calling attention to themselves, then complaining about privacy when the gaze of the entire world for a moment fixes upon them.

Your life is not private when you raise your voice, your family, your friends, none are safe the moment you draw the worlds attention.

It does not matter that your family’s mangled remains were photographed and posted on the internet, nobody cares about your family in particular, people by large don’t care about _you_.

However, should you voice your disgust, voice your disbelief, you will find soon find the gaze of "the world" fix upon you for a short while, and I guarantee you, it won’t be pleasant, not pleasant at all.

The global communication network is not a beast you should pick a fight with, because you won’t win, and at worst the longer you squirm the worse things get for you.

If you want privacy, if you want peace, let it go, let it slip into a blip of nothingness that would never again register upon the global conciousness, it may hurt, true, not defending your sense of honor, the memory of your family, but as I said, if you complain, if you fight, you will find yourself against a throng of idiots who will bring you down to your level, then proceed to pummel you with their immense experience.

Or you could just go along for the ride and get your moment in the spotlight for all the world to see, honestly, you won’t gain any respect from me though, especially if you try to push some idiotic and entirely non-enforcable agenda at the same time.

Linux Part 2

It has now moved from the virtual machine to a real one.. and just in time too, as a few hours later the windows machine it was hosted on decided to hang inexplicably. (which it normally does quite frequently)

Linux

I’ve moved the server to linux..

Some things may be broken.
Probably more so as I have to move everything to a real computer instead of this fake virtual one.

Apatheism

Now there is a perfect word summing up my feelings about religion.

Of course I have beliefs, but they are none of yours, and I’d rather keep it that way.

Happy Holidays

Enjoy your Winter Festival.

It does not matter which religion you are in, the winter festival is not much different from the version the christians stole.

Be giving, be generous, and share a meal.

Chrome ( Of the Google variety )

It is amusing to see how the news outlets of the world proclaim Google’s Chrome browser a failure.

First of all, it is beta, anyone using it is handling an incomplete product.

Second, we all have favorite modifications for our browsers, since my browser of choice remains Mozilla’s Firefox, my addons include Firebug, Noscript and Adblock, for those particularly nasty sites out there.

These will help me diagnose problems in web sites, tamper with the browser data, and ask me if I want to load scripts from around the world ( which I usually do not, unless the page somehow breaks )

Once these get onto Chrome in some manner or shape, I will leave Firefox behind and while I may look fondly upon the foxy, I doubt I would return.

Chrome does seem to have a few weaknesses, but they shall be ironed out before it turns golden.

Science and Position in the Universe

There seems to be an increasingly disturbing trend developing in what I would call the scientific community.

I’ve observed it before, in what science would call its bitter enemy.

The purely religious notion that humans are at the center of the universe, that everything that happens, is because of us.

Any suggestion that we humans can cause irreparable harm to our universe, either by observation ( idiots ), accelerating particles ( I admire the effort, really I do ), is simply preposterous.

We are just people on a tiny blue piece of dust, suspended in a sun beam.

We must work to advance, not stagnate.
Not be hindered by people who fear.
Not be hindered by people who know nothing.
Not be hindered by nonsense religion.

I know it is a comforting light to bathe in, the idea that the order of everything is governed by us, that the names we assign are true, rather than descriptive.

However in the end, it is just an enormous ball of matter, set ablaze by the fact that it is so heavy.

And doing so because of established thought that there is a fundamental interaction between matter that ensures the continued fire.

Our actions are widely perceived to be damaging to our planet, our weather, fauna, flora, yet, here we are adding insult to injury by people protesting against advances that will solve many of our problems.

Even the religious overheads prove themselves to be complete morons by slamming our progress as an abomination against our supposed creators.

Earth is not at the centre of the galaxy. ( We call it the milky way because of the pattern it makes in the night sky, city dwellers can forget about seeing it though. )

And to be honest, we have no idea where the milky way is in comparison to the rest of the universe, since regardless of the direction we look, we see light from 13 billion years ago which is not indicative of todays world at those locations. ( So very far away )

So our true location is of yet, completely unknown.

So remember: Not the focus, not the centre, not important, not cared for.

Get over yourselves.
